ambient thougts
(This all relates to van experience - not the book!)
was just playing back the rough food memories edit we made a couple of weeks ago whilst there was also some ambient music by Matmos playing on my computer - I really liked the effect of the voices with the music - making me think I will try and do a re-edit with some music and sound effects added.
This reminded me of Chris Morris’ ‘Blue Jam’ ambient comedy radio series - worth having another listen to - and I just found its all online at http://cabinessence.cream.org/ though irritatingly in real audio format. Of course ‘Blue Jam’ is a squillion times darker than our project - but it is a very effective mix of Morris’ monologues and music from Warp Records.
Maybe we should think about getting a musician to help us out - I might just try doing an edit to the matmos track that seemed to fit well by accident to see how it goes..
Also was just looking on the freesound website (originally for food samples) and then searched for samples tagged with ‘memory’ and found a recording of a child reciting from the Quaran - leading me to think it would be nice to ask people if there are things they have learned ‘by rote’ and are able to recite for us - poems, songs, prayers, verb conjugations - other more obscure things?
